That incident is said to have occurred around 10:00 AM along the roadway, during which several loud explosions were heard.

[Source: Loop] According to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), for this outlook period (Saturday 18th to Wednesday 22nd May, 2024), the major synoptic feature would be a ridging pattern across the Lesser Antilles. Low-level convergence and some moisture advection across the Lesser Antilles is expected to cause some mixed conditions during this outlook period. Sunshine and fair conditions are likely to be interrupted at times by cloudy patches, producing light or moderate showers over varying areas. There will exist a 10% to 30% chance for an isolated heavy shower to develop, favouring the Leeward Islands, especially near hilly areas.
For this outlook period, Trinidad and Tobago is situated at the Southern extremities of the ridge, and together with an equatorial flow, generally from the Southeast, there is likely to be some surface convergence at times. Mostly fair conditions for most of this outlook period is expected, but there are likely to be partly cloudy to cloudy periods at times in some areas. Increased equatorial moisture advection on Saturday (18th May, 2024), together with low-level convergence, is likely to produce some partly cloudy periods with a 30% to 40% chance for an isolated heavy shower to develop, mainly over Southeastern to Southwestern offshore areas of Trinidad, Southern Trinidad and gulf areas of Western Trinidad. There is also a 20% chance for an isolated thunderstorm to develop over these areas. Elsewhere will be mostly fair conditions with brief showers in a few areas. Less moisture advection is expected on Sunday (19th May, 2024), but with low-level convergence and heating, it is likely for a moderate shower to interrupt fair conditions, mainly over Southeastern areas of Trinidad. On Monday (20th May, 2024), during the pre-dawn and early morning, a patch of equatorial moisture from the Southeast, together with low-level convergence, is likely to produce a few moderate showers, favouring Southeastern offshore areas of Trinidad, South Trinidad and Western gulf areas. There will also be a 10% to 20% chance for an isolated heavy shower or thunderstorm to develop. Otherwise, we can expect mostly fair conditions with the chance for a moderate shower over Tobago or Northeast Trinidad during the afternoon. There will be mostly fair and sunny conditions on Tuesday (21st May, 2024), with the chance for a brief shower favouring Northeast Trinidad or Tobago. On Wednesday (22nd May, 2024), some surface convergence to the Southeast of Trinidad and moisture advection from the Southeast, is likely to give a 20% to 30% chance for a heavy shower or thunderstorm to develop over Southern coastal and offshore areas of Trinidad during the early morning. As the morning continues into early afternoon, partly cloudy periods could develop, interrupting otherwise fair conditions with a light or moderate shower in a few areas. There is a 10% to 20% chance for an isolated heavy shower during the afternoon, over Western gulf areas of Trinidad. The wind in the near-surface to mid-levels is expected to continue to be steady and moderate for this outlook period. It is possible for this to translate down to the surface at times, giving breezy to windy conditions, especially in the vicinity of any shower or in elevated areas. The Met Office notes that the present Saharan dust concentration in the atmosphere is expected to continue to be mostly moderate for this outlook period. In the event of any bush or brush fires, landfill or forest fires, together with the Saharan dust, a further reduction in air quality is to be expected. Sensitive persons are advised to take the necessary precautions. Please continue to pay attention to the latest forecasts, alerts, and information issued by the TTMS. |
